Scout Pit modification

Postby coon4492 on Sun Feb 08, 2009 5:51 pm

I've made a scout pit in my woods and it turned out really well but how could I modify a scout pit to be used almost like a hunting blind as in something I could hide in under ground and still shoot a rifle out of it. I want it to be a hunting blind and not a shelter.

We call them "scout pitts", the rest of the world calls them by the traditional name of "foxholes" or "fighting holes".

Google:

How to build a foxhole.

1,2,3 instructions there from several sources.

or

find an old Marine and ask him about digging "fighting holes". You will get two hours of war stories as well as instructions.

I guess you could call one a hunting blind. In my experience a hunting blind if for fun, an foxhole is work.
OK, what's the other plan!

:D I do enjoy marine war stories thats just an added bonus

I can ask plenty of WW2 marine vets at the reenactment this summer they love to tell people their stories I bet one of them will give me the basics on digging a fox hole.

The easiest way to make a foxhole is with a 25lb cratering charge!

yes, but the sides are not nice and square and you have no control over the shape of the opening so you can span it with logs and cover it with sandbags.

And that takes all the fun out of it when the sgt tells you to move it a foot to the left!
