American Elderberries

Postby 3fires » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:09 pm

Does anyone here have good tips on preparing them or ways to use them?

I found a good mess of them a week or so back and made them into juice, but am looking for other ideas.

Try

Elderberries: Red, White and Blue

and

Elder flower cordial recipe

There is also Elderberry pie but I have no recipe for that one. I am sure you could dig up a recipe for it. I am not a wine person but some folks are with Elderberry wine. Just make sure you are only using the flower heads and the berries only. The rest of the plant is cyanide toxic.

Thanks Dixie, I'll look them over when I get a chance.

thanks for pointing out the cyanide part too, I did mention that in my video as well because I think it's important for people to know before picking and using the plant.
