Making Smaller Spheres

The making of smaller spheres presented an interesting challenge.
How to hold the sphere, and how not to melt it in the process?

I started by taking a chunk of ice and forming one end into a cylinder shape.
(A lot like an icicle.)

The very end was made roughly spherical.

I started to smooth out the end of the ice.

A little more rough cutting to make the end more spherical.

Some more polishing.

Finished ice sphere.

I decided not to separate the sphere from the rest of the ice.  The bulk portion of the ice was a convenient way to hold the lens/sphere.

Worked perfectly!

The size of this sphere was about an inch and a half.
